Character Count Tool

The Character Count Tool helps you optimize text for both SEO and SEA.

What the tool does

When you paste any text into the tool, it immediately shows:

  • Total number of characters

  • Total number of words

  • How many times a chosen word or phrase appears

  • Whether the text fits within SEO and Google Ads limits

This makes it easy to write content that fits the exact constraints of search engines and ad formats.

SEO-focused analysis

For SEO, Google doesn’t measure limits by characters alone, it uses pixel width.
This tool calculates the approximate pixel width of your text to show whether your:

  • Title tag (max ~512px)

  • Meta description (max ~920px)

fit within recommended limits.
Because letters vary in width (e.g., i vs w), the pixel-based check offers a far more accurate preview than simple character counting.

Google Ads limits

The tool also checks your text against strict Google Ads character requirements:

  • Headlines: 30 characters

  • Descriptions: 90 characters

  • Paths: 15 characters

It also accounts for CJK characters (Chinese, Japanese, Korean), counting each as two characters, matching how Google measures them.

Additional options

  • Analyze occurrences of a specific word or phrase

  • Case-sensitive or partial-match detection

  • Instant feedback on whether you’re “within limit” or over

When to use it

The Character Count Tool is ideal for:

  • Writing SEO-optimized titles and descriptions

  • Preparing Google Ads headlines and descriptions

  • Checking consistency across large ad copy batches

  • Ensuring multilingual text complies with Google’s counting rules

  • Validating content before publishing or uploading

A simple but essential tool for any marketer who wants to get content right the first time.
